William George Spencer

October 14, 1927 – October 4 2022


New Hamburg – William Spencer was called home peacefully to the Lord on October 4th at Vassar Brother’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving children.


William was born to the late Fred and Ivy Mae Spencer in Burnley, UK. William and his wife Mary Bridget adopted four infants from the Catholic Charities in England. The family immigrated to the US via the Queen Elizabeth II in 1972.


William was a bricklayer by trade but worked multiple jobs to provide and create a better life for his family. He also worked on Amtrak transportation, drove taxi cab in the evenings and could be seen doing various side work on the weekends. He would fondly point out buildings, chimneys and masonry jobs he had worked on. William was an honest, hardworking, and respectable gentleman who will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a mild mannered, reserved man who knew how to tell a joke, loved history, animals, and his children, most especially his grandchildren.


William was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Bridget and is son Christopher Declan. He is survived by his son Kevin (Gloria), his daughter Ann Marie (Dan) Daum, grandchildren Amanda, Christopher, Jennifer Daum and daughter MaryLu McLoughlin.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday October 8th, 2022 at St. Mary’s Wappinger Falls.
