OBITUARY
J Donald Feeney (Don) passed away suddenly on July 24, 2023 in Poughkeepsie, New York where he spent summers with his family. He was in the middle of a round of golf doing what he loved to do.
Donald was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on February 9, 1933 and was the son of John & Frances Feeney. After graduating in 1950 from Wappingers High School, he earned an apprenticeship in the Bricklayers Union and later proudly served his country 1953 to 1955 in the Army.
Donald became a successful building contractor in 1958 and retired 37 years later in 1995.
He was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 70 years having served as the Grand Knight of the Wappingers Council 1646 and the Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree.
After retiring to Florida, he found great joy in helping others, he also found time to enjoy bowling, golf and was a true NY Giant and Notre Dame football fan.
Don felt that his greatest achievement was his wonderful family. In 1957 Donald married the love of his life Joanne Schmeltz, was married for nearly 50 years and raised four amazing children. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by all that had the pleasure to know him.
He was predeceased by his wife Joanne in 2006, his son Gregory in 2017 and his brother Robert in 2008. He is survived by a sister Ann Marie Furnari, his children John (Rosemarie), Susan (Garry), David (Tracy) and daughter-in-law Heidi, ten grandchildren (John, Dana, Kristen, Shannon, Megan, Emma, Timothy, Ellen, Leanne, Gina) and five great- grandchildren (Cora, Lauren, Bridget, Brady, Hudson, Sophie, Grayson) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappinger Falls, NY on Wednesday August 9th at 10:00 AM. A private family burial will follow.
The family requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
