Florence Jones, most recently of Wappingers Falls, NY , passed away on 7/3/2020 after a brief illness. She was 83 years old. Florence was born on May 17, 1937 in Poughkeepsie NY to John P and Nita Millington Arnhardt. Her early years were defined by the love and bonds of family. Florence grew up in a household with two deaf parents, where conversation around the dinner table took place in American Sign Language. And, owing to her parents' disability and illness. Florence spent time in St. Vincent's Children Home, Albany, NY as a young girl, together with her sister. As an adult, she returned home to the Hudson Valley, where she would go on to build her life and raise a family.

Florence spent the majority of her adult years living in Tall Trees Development in Hughsonville, NY as a mother raising three sons: Russell G. Jones (Patrice Bohlmann-Jones) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Terry T. Jones (Jeanie Jones) of Marlboro, NY, and Jeffrey P. Jones (Christine DiMarco) of Poughkeepsie, NY. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Russell G. Jones, Sr of 35 years, as well as by her siblings, John Arnhardt, Alma Casso, and Barbara Trojan. Several nieces, nephews, and cousin survive her.
In addition to her children, Florence is survived by her six grandchildren: Lyndsey L. LaPolla (Joe) and Steven Jones (Kim), daughter and son of Russell Jones, Danielle Theissen (Max) and Terence Jones, daughter and son of Terry and Jeanie Jones, and Jesse Jones (Matt) and Mercedes DiMarco, son and daughter of Jeffrey Jones and Christina DiMarco. She is survived by her great grandchildren: Isabella and Joseph LaPolla, Paige, Benjamin, and Emma Grace Jones.
While raising her family, Florence enjoyed working as a system's software technical writer and system's programmer at IBM from 1960 retiring in 1988. She was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. She also worked per diem at Vassar Brothers Medical Center as a medical transcriptionist in the radiology department from 1994 to 2012.
Florence enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, watching sports, was a passionate reader, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Florence was a friend to all. Her heart was generous and forgiving. She was our Mom, and everyone's Grammy.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service at St. Mary's Church will be Wednesday July 8, 2020 at 9:30 AM. A grave site ceremony will be held with family and friends attending.
