Obituary

William J. Rello, 76 of Wappingers Falls, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 5, 1944, the son of Dominick and Edith Rello. William known to all as Bill was a brother, uncle, friend, and teacher. Teaching was his passion and even though he was retired he taught classes at the Desmond Center. His love of poetry was deep. Bill's intelllectual conversations and love for knowing and understanding will be missed. Due to the present circumstances, a Memorial Mass and a gathering commemorating Bill's life will be held at a future date. "You-you alone will have the stars as no one else has them....In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night...You-only you-will have stars that can laugh- Antoine deSaint-Exupery. Bill was a dedicated , caring, soft spoken and respected teacher.. I always looked forward to his special Christmas card. He took
the time to write a beautiful verse that was both meaningful and spiritually uplifting. His spirit will always stay in my heart. May he Rest In Peace.

I crossed paths with Bill at Pelham Memorial High School. I didn't know him very well but do fondly recall a few conversations before he retired where his gentle spirit was evident. I was a new teacher and he impressed me with his quiet strength. And I had forgotten about his love of poetry, but enjoyed remembering that about him. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

I taught with Bill in the English Department at Pelham Memorial H.S. for almost 30 years. He was a wonderful teacher, colleague and friend. He brought to teaching and to life, his love and knowledge of literature and philosophy. I will miss his intelligent conversation, his good sense of humor (and boisterous laugh), and his kindness. I spoke with him a month or so before he died, and was planning on calling him back. I very much regret not doing so. He always spoke warmly of his nephews. I extend my condolences to them and to the rest of the family.

Please accept my most sincere condolences on Bill's passing. I worked with Bill at Pelham Memorial High School many years ago and I remember how kind and helpful he was to me as a young staff member just starting out. I work in the counseling dept and there was one student we shared who, sadly, had lots of problems and got into quite a bit of trouble with the law. Bill was always compassionate, yet firm, in his expectations of this student and I always felt he provided some well-needed guidance and good example for this particular young man. He was kind to me and was a very well respected colleague to us all. God bless you, ay your family heal from his loss, and may Bill rest in the peace of Christ.
