Obituary for Eugene V. Toohey Jr.

Eugene V. Toohey, beloved grandfather, father, brother, and teacher died peacefully at Vassar Brothers Hospital on November 5th 2018 surrounded by loving family members.
Eugene was born in Peekskill, N.Y. on November 18, 1950 to Eugene Sr. and Louise. He is survived by his siblings: Linda Smith (Raymond Smith) of Inman, S.C., Diane Burke (Karl Burke) of Milton, N.C., Eileen Renzi (Tony Renzi) of Summerville, S.C., and Rita Toohey of New Paltz, N.Y. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews who all share fond memories of their uncle.
Eugene is survived by his son: Jeffrey Toohey (Katie Runnells) of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and his granddaughter, Athena.
Anyone who knew Eugene knew his love for his granddaughter was endless. She brought him tremendous joy in the time they spent together. Eugene was known for his sense of humor and will be remembered as someone who could always make you smile and laugh. In addition, Eugene was incredibly bright and enjoyed a good discussion and debate as much as he enjoyed a good joke. He was a passionate and dedicated teacher in the area of Continuing Education for adults; previously at Dutchess Community College and currently at Dutchess County BOCES.
Eugene loved campin and fishing. Friends and family willremember his many camping trips to the Adirondacks. In recent years he shared these two favorite past times with his beloved granddaughter Athena.
Eugene will always be remembered for his big smile, kind-hearted nature, his goofy sense of humor, and his love for teaching.
