Helen W. Murphy, 96, of Wappingers Falls, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at home. She was born in New London, CT., November 16, 1921, the daughter of Samuel and Emily Nabenhauer Wright. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward W. Murphy in 1972. Mrs. Murphy resided in Wappingers Falls since 1958, and was raised in Rhinebeck on the Mansakenning estate. She was a graduate of Cornell University with a BA degree in Bacteriology, class of 1944, and was employed at the National Institute of Health in Washington, D.C.,. She was a member of the Mid-Hudson Mycological Association. Mrs. Murphy later managed the Mobil Mart on Route 9, Poughkeepsie, after her husband died. She then worked for about 20 years at the Dutchess County Department of Health as an environmental lab technician. She enjoyed wildflowers, nature walks, and gardening. Surviving are 2 daughters, Lorraine Murphy and her husband James Hunter of Hamden, CT., Julia Murphy of Tampa, Fla., a son, Brian Murphy of Alexandria, VA., 4 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
