Obituary for Sister Lucy Houston

Sister Lucy Houston, O.S.C., of the Monastery of St. Clare, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017. She was born in Brooklyn in 1931 and was the 8th of 9 children of Thomas Houston and Lucy Watson, both of Ireland. Sister entered the Poor Clare Nuns in 1959, and with 9 other sisters founded a Monastery in Anapolis, Brazil which is still flourishing. She returned with the remaining Sisters in 1987 and spent 10 years in the Poor Clare Monastery in Belfast, returning to the United States shortly before the Poor Clares moved to Wappingers Falls in 2004. She is predeceased by a baby sister Mary, and three brothers and is survived by one sister, Vera Volovar, by two brothers, Arthur and Thomas Houston, and by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Friemds may call at the Monastery of St. Clare, 70 Nelson Ave., Wappingers Falls, Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30. A wake service will be held at 7:00 PM.
